The Mother Churches

United University Church – formerly University Methodist, First Methodist Episcopal, and St. Anthony Methodist Episcopal, founded 1849. After the settlement of St. Anthony was incorporated into the City of Minneapolis, the St. Anthony ME Church was renamed First Methodist Episcopal. This church is considered the "Mother Church" of the east side of Minneapolis.

Wesley United Methodist Church – formerly Centenary Methodist Episcopal and Minneapolis Methodist Episcopal ("The Little White Church"), 1852–present.

First Generation Churches

Olivet Methodist – formerly Thirteenth Avenue Methodist Episcopal and Seventh Street Methodist Episcopal, c1870–1966.

Hobart United Methodist – formerly Franklin Avenue Methodist Episcopal and Hobart Chapel, 1872–present. Hobart Chapel was a mission project of Centenary MEC. Franklin Ave. MEC was built in 1876 at Franklin Ave. and 5th Street and burned down in 1903.

Foss Methodist – formerly Washington Avenue Methodist Episcopal, c1871–c1955.

Hennepin Avenue United Methodist – 1875 to present. (Other churches with other origins have merged into Hennepin UMC – Fowler, Border, and United Brethren churches)

Simpson United Methodist – 1882–present.

Second Generation Churches

Joyce Memorial United Methodist – formerly Lake St. Methodist Episcopal, 1886–present. Started as a mission project of Simpson MEC.

Park Avenue United Methodist, 1892–present. Organized by former members of the Thirteenth Avenue MEC.

Third Generation Church

Epworth United Methodist, 1915 to present. An outgrowth of Park Avenue MEC and Walker MEC.

Other relationships

Twenty-fourth Street Methodist Episcopal, 1883–1904. In 1902 became Wesley Chapel, a mission of Wesley MEC. The mission was abandoned in 1904.

Grace-Penn United Methodist, 1909–present. The building site for the church was donated to the Conference trustees by Wesley member, Philo Calkins. The Forest Hts. MEC (no relationship to Wesley) building was moved to the site.

Not related, but in the genealogy

Walker United Methodist – formerly Bloomington Avenue Methodist Episcopal, 1886–present. Current building was built in 1910 and renamed Walker. The money to build the building was donated by T. B. Walker and other from Hennepin Avenue MEC.
